Ida Mae Lawrence, age 90, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017, at Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Ida Mae was born on July 6, 1926 in Xenia, to her loving parents, the late Dr. Fred and Lula (Melton) Fatheree. She grew up on a farm surrounded by all kinds of animals as her father was a veterinarian. She always said she was a little skinny country girl who grew up on the farm with her three brothers and seven sisters, where memories were created and she was always surrounded by love and laughter. She later married the late Jesse R. Lawrence of Xenia on July 24, 1944, in Henderson, Kentucky, and they shared over 51 years of marriage until his passing on February 12, 1996. She was blessed to be the mother of 8 wonderful children.
Upon her passing she was greeted at heaven's doors by her family who preceded her death, including her parents; husband; twin sons: Jerry and Larry Lawrence; all of her daughters: Peggy Blair, Rhonda Edgington, Laura Lawrence, and Regina Stanford; and all of her siblings: Blanche Rush, Mable Bullard, Gladys Vest, Fawn Spicer, Jewel Howell, Irene Griffith, Freddie Fatheree, Bud Fatheree, Lawrence Fatheree, and Martha Lue Jones.
She is survived by 2 sons: Dewayne (Linda) Lawrence and Jesse R. “J.R.” (Pam) Lawrence; 2 sons-in-law: Dr. Keith Blair and Dwight (Betty) Edgington; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild: Timothy Lawrence; Dwight D. (Lisa) Edgington and daughters Amber, Ashli, and Destiny Leslie and her daughter Sophie Leslie; Melissa (Kevin) Dick; Matthew Lawrence and daughter Mya Lawrence; Jennifer (Dave) Link and son Tyler Link; Heather (Travis) Tucker and daughter Georgia Tucker; Daniel (Theresa) Edgington and daughters Madyson Slover and Grace Edgington; Dustin (Andrea) Edgington and son Mason Rinehart and daughter Anna Edgington; Carrie Paul; Nichole Stanford; Justin Lawrence; Krista Blair; Angela Lawrence and daughter Marley Lawrence; and Jamie Lawrence. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ida Mae did not answer to your typical "Grandma" as she was known for being called "Sugar" to her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy as they all have memories of her being the loving "Sugar" who loved anything pink and would never pass up an opportunity to buy a new pair of shoes! She also had a passion for sewing, cooking, and baked delish homemade pies and desserts. She never missed a moment to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taught many of them how to cook and bake. Ida Mae attended Xenia United Methodist Church, and had worked at Xenia Manufacturing.
