Donald Alonzo Hamilton, age 87, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday evening, May 16, 2017, at his daughter’s home in Flora.
Donald was born August 9, 1929, in Flora, the son of Lewis and Minnie (Coble) Hamilton. He married Galina O. Denning on September 7, 1946. She preceded him in death on June 14, 1992. He later married Barbara A. Pickens on January 15, 2000. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2014.
Donald worked in the oil fields for 38 years and Operators Engineer Union for 15 years. In his free time, he enjoyed singing at home and performing in front of small groups as well as spending time with family. He attended the Christian Church in Sailor Springs and also attended the Community Southern Baptist Church in Clay City.
Donald is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Donna and Larry Milner; a sister: Leona Totten; step-sons: Nick Pickens (wife Marsha), Randy Pickens (wife Barb), and Sterling Pickens (wife Julie); 7 grandchildren: Craig Lane, Chad Milner (wife Emily), Bruce Hamilton (wife Jenny), Chad Hamilton, Jared Hamilton, Chris Hamilton, and Larissa Hamilton; 8 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a son: Bruce Hamilton; a granddaughter: Jamie Hamilton; a step-great-grandson: Berklee Pickens; 4 brothers: Earl, Raymond, Clint, and Bud; and 4 sisters: Lena Colclasure, Violet Wheeler, Dorothy VanDyke, and Captola Barbee.
A funeral service for Donald Hamilton will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with a visitation from 11a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Pastor David Starr will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Memorials may be given to assist the family with expenses or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
