Charles Johnson, age 72, of Hord, Illinois, passed away Thursday evening, August 17, 2017, at his home in Louisville.
He was born March 26, 1945, in Clay County, the son of Christopher C. and Martha Jane (Coleman) Johnson. He married Betty Caldwell on March 15, 1965, in Louisville.
Charlie worked as a boss for Murphy Brothers Construction for 30 years. In 1994, he bought the Country Side Convenience Store in Hord and operated it until it’s closing in 2006. Charles was a member of Red Brush Christian Church where he had been baptized. He enjoyed 17 years as a Mason and was also a Shriner.
Charlie is survived by his wife: Betty Johnson of Louisville; daughter: Jane Crews; son: Chris Johnson; granddaughter: Tiffany Colborn; great-grandson: Bob Hord; siblings: Chris (Roberta) Johnson, Peggy (Luther) Fender, and Linda (Ray Dean) Heiden; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: John A. Johnson; a half-brother: Donald Belleville; and 5 sisters: Christine (John) Junkerman, Anna B. (Francis) Westendorf, Mary Lu (James) VanPelt, Thelma (Jack) Reed, and Margaret Park.
A funeral service for Charlie Johnson will be 8 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2017, at Red Brush Christian Church, Louisville, with Dusty Elmore officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday evening at the church. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations should be given to the family. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.
