Duane Barker, age 85, of Louisville, Illinois, passed away Monday morning, September 11, 2017, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.
Duane was born February 29, 1932, in Iowa, the son of Fred and Laverle (Grossman) Barker. He married Shirley Carlson on April 4, 1953 and she preceded him in death on February 16, 2001. He later married Barbara (Dawson) Kerner Mugrage on October 21, 2006, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Flora.
Duane lived in Rockford where he worked as a machinist and retired from Borg-Warner. Upon retirement, he moved to Louisville in 1993, and in the years following, was able to enjoy dancing, fishing, and traveling. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Flora.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara Barker of Louisville; children: Robin Wambold (Harold) of Harrisburg, PA and Howard Barker (Toni) of Texas; step-children: Dean Kerner of Litchfield and Dennis Kerner (Louise) of Xenia; a brother: Larry (the late Bonnie) Barker of Rockford; along with several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a daughter: Rita Doyle; a stepson: Dale Kerner; and one sister.
A visitation for Duane Barker will be held 5-8 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Duane’s memory may be made to First Southern Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
