Lavaun K. Headlee, age 91, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday night, November 21, 2017, at Clay County Hospital.
She was born June 1, 1926, near Lawrenceville, the daughter of the late Orble Newton and Evalyn (Johnson) Keen. She married John F. Headlee on June 21, 1947, in Henderson, Kentucky, and they shared over 65 years of marriage together. John preceded her in death on September 27, 2012.
Her youth was spent helping her family with farm work and operating a grocery. Near the end of World War II, Lavaun went to work for Brown Shoe Company in Olney, and later International Shoe Company in Flora until the factory was closed in 1975. She went on to own and operate the Ranch Motel. Collecting and appreciating antiques—including china, furniture, miniatures, and clocks—was what Lavaun truly enjoyed. She was a member of several antique organizations, and had the opportunity to meet and discuss similar interests with collectors from around the world. Exploring genealogy was another pursuit she found great interest in. She had been a member of Flora First Christian Church, and she and John actively attended Red Brush Christian Church before he passed away.
Lavaun is survived by a son: Dennis K. Headlee (wife Cheryl) of Xenia; a daughter: Connie Knarr (husband Richard) of O’Fallon, Missouri; 2 grandchildren: Joshua Headlee (wife Amanda) of Loganville, Georgia, and Angela Feldhake (husband Patrick) of Mascoutah; 2 great-grandchildren: Elan & Averie Feldhake; a brother: Sterl Keen (wife Maxine) of Olney; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a brother: Donnell Keen (wife Barbara).
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Red Brush Christian Church.
