Mildred Geneva Fehrenbacher, age 102, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Lavender Ridge in Effingham, Illinois.
Mildred was born July 24, 1915, in Wayne County, the daughter of Dr. William E. and Mabel (Knapp) Phillips. She married Paul D. Fehrenbacher on June 15, 1940, in Meadville, PA, and together they shared 56 years of marriage. He passed away on October 10, 1996.
Mildred was co-owner and operator of the Flora Newsstand along with her husband. She was a member of the Community of Christ Flora Branch and enjoyed volunteering with the Clay County Hospital Auxiliary. Mildred’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed taking them to Brush Creek campgrounds.
She is survived by her 2 sons: Jack (Janie) Fehrenbacher of Tulsa, OK, and Neal (Janet) Fehrenbacher of Flora; 3 grandchildren: Paul Fehrenbacher of Broken Arrow, OK, Tonya (Bob) Anderson of Flora, and Tony (Lindsey) Fehrenbacher of Xenia; along with 7 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law: Peggy Fehrenbacher; 2 granddaughters: Susie Fehrenbacher and Cindy Fehrenbacher; a sister: Marie Henson; and a sister-in-law: Helen Hebron.
A funeral service for Mildred Fehrenbacher will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Mildred’s memory may be given to Clay County Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
