Beverly Ann Hembrecht, age 83, of Flora, Illinois, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana, in the care of her loving family.
She was born May 24, 1934, in Milford, Indiana, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Hamman) Ryman. She married William A. Hembrecht on October 14, 1973, at the First Brethren Church of South Bend, Indiana, and they have shared 44 years of marriage.
A resolutely independent spirit who signed up for air flight lessons during her youth, and a woman drawing inspiration from her steadfast faith, Beverly was the author of several books, including her most recent, “The Gift of Gabby.” Her works appeared in Poet’s Pen Quarterly and the Lutheran Digest, and she was nearing completion of a new book of poetry inspired by each book of the Bible. She enjoyed gardening and quilting, and was a wonderful cook. She had been a member of the Lutheran Church. She took on several working roles throughout life, and went on to retire from the Department of Agriculture through the La Porte County Clerk’s Office in Indiana.
Beverly is survived by her husband: William Hembrecht of Flora; a son: Bradley J. (Debbie) Riggs of La Porte, Indiana; a daughter: Robin D. (Carroll) Doll of Mishawaka, Indiana; 2 grandchildren: Roxanne Marie (Anthony) Webb and Kyle Anthony Riggs; 3 great-grandchildren: Illyanna Arnicar, Gideon Arnicar, and Theresa Ann Riggs; a sister: Faith Connor of Ashland, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Beverly was joyful in the anticipation of becoming a great-great-grandmother in May. She was preceded in death by her parents; and 7 siblings: Darlene Townes, Melba Warstler, Doris Jean Jones, Jack Ryman, Russell Ryman, Bill Ryman, and Everett Vallance.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Floral Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to a cancer research organization or support group of the donor’s choice in memory of Beverly.
