Laura Jean Henson, age 84, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018, at her home.
Jean was born November 10, 1933, in Flora, the daughter of Elmer O. and Laura E. (Wilson) Sloan. She married Glen Leon Henson on May 19, 1952, in Salem, and they shared 64 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2016.
Jean was a member of First Church of God in Flora, and during her life, she worked at the Shoe Factory, Scudamores, and retired from Sparton Manufacturing. She loved listening to Elvis and other music, and attending gospel and bluegrass singings. She also enjoyed family gatherings and holiday get-togethers. Jean had a loving relationship with her children and grandchildren, and often expressed concern for others.
She is survived by 5 children: Tina Branham of Flora, Sandra Henson of Cisne, Beverly (Chris) Britton of Flora, Connie (Dave) Rhodes of Flora, and David (Carolyn) Henson of Iuka; 5 grandchildren: Amy (Tyson) Tolliver of Effingham, Ryan (Diana) Branham of Noble, Kendra (Greg) Warner of Effingham, Kristen (Cody) Lynn of Cisne, and Taylor Rhodes (Zach Meridith) of Flora; a step-granddaughter: Jessica Aulabaugh of Grafton; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister: Dolores Sloan Bratton of Broken Arrow, OK; a brother: Bud Sloan of Olney; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister: Marilyn Sloan Grimes; brother-in-law: Don Bratton; and step-grandson: Trey Rhodes.
A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2018, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with Pastor Mike LeMay officiating. Interment will follow in Henson Cemetery, rural Xenia. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorial donations are suggested to First Church of God, Clay County Hospice, or Clay County Cancer Crusaders and will be accepted at the funeral home.
