Charles E. Hoffee, age 92, of West Salem, Illinois, passed away Sunday evening, October 14, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
He was born January 25, 1926, in Wayne County, the son of Charles Rueben and Mildred Elizabeth (Elliott) Hoffee.
Charles served in the Army 96th Infantry Division during WWII, serving in Okinawa, Guam, Saipan, and the Philippines. He held the honor of being a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart awards. He was involved in farming throughout his life and was a security guard in Olney and Fairfield. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and enjoyed reading and completing many woodworking projects.
He is survived by two daughters: Jean (Don) Attebery of Cisne, and Lisa Hoffee (fiancé David Rogers) of Allen, TX; two grandchildren: Andy (Daniela) Attebery of Chicago and USAF SrA Thomas Hoffee of Wichita, KS; and friend: Jeneva Cline of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son: David Ernest Hoffee.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Pastor Matt Richart officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery, Mt. Erie with the presentation of military honors. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to either Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon or the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted through the funeral home.
