Berneta Emma (Lutz) Weiler, age 90, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, December 7, 2018, at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.
She was born March 25, 1928, in rural Clay County, the daughter of Elza and Grace (Brown) Lutz. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” E. Weiler on December 7, 1946, and they shared 64 years of marriage prior to his death September 28, 2011.
Berneta was employed in the Clay City Grade School cafeteria for over 20 years. She was a member of Clay City United Methodist Church. A devoted wife, mother, and adoring grandmother, she lovingly put her family first and will always be remembered for her delicious home cooked meals and the enjoyment and pride she took in caring for her garden and flower beds.
Berneta is survived by 3 sons: Alan (Doris) Weiler of Maiden, NC, Chris Weiler of Clay City, and Mark (Joyce) Weiler of Clay City; daughter-in-law: Ruth Ann Weiler of Clay City; grandchildren: Shari Weiler (Kevin) Ezell, Chad (Jessie) Weiler, Angela (Dusty) Noden, Amanda (Dave) Wilson, Layton Weiler, Jesteen (Jonathon) Billingsley, Joe (Rachel) Bruner, and Sarah Weiler; great-grandchildren: Kathryn, Alexandra, Kira, Chase, Elliott, Noelle, Norah, Zaiden, Azaira, Reagan, Ava, Rylan, Kamden, Knox, and Lilian; 2 sisters: Dorothea (the late Charles) Pringle of Clay City, and Lorene (Frank) Mayden of Godfrey; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son: Doug Weiler; a granddaughter: Andrea Weiler; and 3 sisters: Wilma (Alfred) Lybarger, Ninetta (Gerald) Wilson, and Evelyn Lutz.
A funeral ceremony will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A private burial will take place at Clay City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m. Monday evening and 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Gift of Hope and will be accepted through the funeral home.
