Lucy Davis

    Lucy Lorene Davis of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana at the age of 92.

    Lucy was born February 21, 1927, the youngest of 6 children, to James E. and Maude L. (French) Davis in Jefferson County, Illinois.  She attended Climax Lowery and Shields schools and graduated from Flora High School.

    She went to work as a telephone operator for 13 years until General Telephone Company was converted to dial.  She later worked at Sparton Manufacturing, retiring after 28 years.

    Lucy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior when she was 12 years old.  She was a member of the Flora Church of the Nazarene where she was honored in 1985 for years of faithful service which included: Missions treasurer for 33 years, choir for 30 years, Sunday School Board for 25 years, Sunday School secretary for 20 years, Sunday School treasurer for 15 years, and youth treasurer for 5 years.

    Lucy is survived by 3 nephews and 5 nieces: Treva Fitzgerald of Sterling, Beverly Jean Roof of Fairbanks, AK, Phyllis (Larry) Phillips of Centralia, Deanna Lynch of Salem, Ed (Helen) Davis of Kirkland, Bob Davis of Mooresville, NC, Jerry (Patty) Sharp of Mt. Vernon, Nancy (Michael) Roberson of Earlville, several great nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers: Cecil Davis and Lowell Davis; 3 sisters: Florence Holman, Ruth Sharp, and Ruby Davis; and a nephew: Leonard Sharp.

    Lucy loved her family, friends, and church family very much.  Her greatest desire was for all of them to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and for them to be able to join her in heaven.

    A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Flora Church of the Nazarene.  Interment will follow in New Home (Lowery) Cemetery, rural Jefferson County.  Visitation will be 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday at the church.  Frank & Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials are suggested to Flora Church of the Nazarene and will be accepted through the funeral home.
