Virginia K. Hagerstrom, age 98, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday afternoon, March 25, 2019, at Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flora.
She was born March 3, 1921, in Mt. Erie, the daughter of Raymond and Bertha (Holman) Frederick. She married Robert “Bob” S. Hagerstrom on June 27, 1942, at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma, and together they shared 36 years of marriage prior to his death May 20, 1979.
Virginia was a graduate of the University of Illinois in Champaign and became a teacher at Clay City, Louisville, and several other schools. She later worked at Murray Center in Centralia. She was a member of Flora First Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Virginia, with help from son, Stan, began taking care of running the family farm after Bob’s untimely death in 1979, up until 2016.
She is survived by a daughter: Robin (Ben) Randol of Huffman, Texas; a son: Stan (Jenny) Hagerstrom of Neoga; 5 grandchildren: Nicole (Brad) Brian, Sara (Ricky) Kent, Calvin (Stephanie) Hagerstrom, Joshua (Dana) Hagerstrom, and Tyler (Stacey) Hagerstrom; 10 great-grandchildren: Reid, Hadley, Brady, Chase, Will, Ren, Clara, Ruby, Zoey, and Jackson; and a sister: Lois (the late Richard) Didier of Santa Barbara, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter: Karolita Kay Hagerstrom; and 3 siblings: Cecil (Esther) Frederick, Ernest (Gladys) Frederick, and Loia (Richard) Musgrave.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2019, at Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Loren Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Bright Focus Foundation for Macular Degeneration or Flora First Christian Church and will be accepted through the funeral home.
