Bernard A. Dunnigan, age 83, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday morning, June 27, 2019, at his home.
He was born June 22, 1936, in Flora, the fourth son of Bernard and Mary (Thompson) Dunnigan. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Bennett and she preceded him in death in 1975. He later married Kathryn “Kitty” Erwin and she preceded him in death March 11, 2019.
Bernard served in the US Army stationed in Germany. He worked as an electrician and in heating and cooling, in previous years working at Etchison Appliance in Flora. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion, VFW, and St. Stephen Catholic Church in Flora and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He is survived by his stepchildren: Debbie (Danny) Greenwood of Flora, Robert R. Jackson Jr. of Marble Falls, Texas, Cheryl Jackson of Xenia, and Christine (Tom) McAllister of Flora; 12 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Dunnigan Wright and Arlene Dunnigan; 3 nieces: Nancy Rich, Karen Donoho, and Tina Dunnigan; 5 nephews: Mike, Kevin, Mark, Darin, and Brian Dunnigan; and 2 great-nieces and 6 great-nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; and 4 brothers: Leo, Charles, Richard, and John Dunnigan.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Flora. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery with the presentation of military funeral honors. Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Monday evening at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, with a Rosary recital at 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Hospice and will be accepted through the funeral home.
