Marjorie Phyllis Moats, age 93, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday evening, October 15, 2019, in Springfield.
Mrs. Moats was born November 21, 1925, in Clay County, the daughter of Lewis Everett and Lula Marie (Byrnes) Clement. She was united in marriage to John L. Moats on September 23, 1950, in Flora and they shared 59 wedding anniversaries together until his death March 17, 2010.
Mrs. Moats worked several jobs, including as a meat inspector for the USDA. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Flora. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, shopping, and caring for her pets. Her family was very important to her and she cherished time spent with them.
She is survived by her 2 daughters: Kim Moats Nussmeyer of Divernon and Sharon Slaughter (Rick) of Flora; 3 grandchildren: Kam Nussmeyer Shick (Ryan), Kelly Berard (Nick), Kendall Lampley (Nick); and 5 great-grandchildren: Alivia, Lucas, Isaiah, Zayne, and Olivia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law: Mark Nussmeyer; and two brothers: Doyne and Lowell Clement.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2019, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Loren Holloway officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Oil Belt Christian Service Camp or Fur A Good Paws and will be accepted through the funeral home.
