Evelyn Ruth “Ruthee” Myers, age 78, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday night, December 10, 2019, at her home.
Ruthee was born September 16, 1941, in Golden Gate, Illinois, the daughter of John and Mildred (Gaddis) Bowman. She married Richard Lewis Myers on February 9, 1960, at the Iuka Methodist Church. Richard preceded her in death on October 22, 1995.
She grew up in Iuka, and following marriage she and Richard moved to Cowden where she cared for her home and family. They later moved to Flora and Ruthee went to work for IGA, and later began a career at Flora Bank & Trust where she was promoted to head teller. She enjoyed bowling with the bank team, took an interest in watching football, and was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. Ruthee loved spending time with her family and those she cared for.
Ruthee is survived by 2 daughters: Lisa (Randy) Hargis of Flora and Christy (Dennis) Uphold of Kinmundy; 4 grandchildren: Matthew (Mandy) Hargis of Flora, Nathan Hargis of Xenia, Shanna (Tyler) Ambuehl of Dieterich, and Seth Uphold of Kinmundy; 7 great-grandchildren: Shanda, Drake, Jack, Josie, Jasper, Christian, and Jenna; and 2 great-great-grandchildren: Carter and Haidyn; a brother: Chuck Bowman of Humble, Texas; a sister: Donna Sue (Leo) Witter of Mill Shoals; 2 sisters-in-law: Mary Helen (the late Bud) Hollenkamp of Salem and Sonnie (the late Donald) Myers of Naples, Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a special aunt in Ruthee’s life following her mother’s death: Mary Holstlaw; her husband: Richard; 6 siblings: Donald Bowman, Jack Bowman, Bobby Bowman, Mary Lou Wall, Pat Hay, and Leroy Bowman; and her companion: Dick Stanford.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2019, at Bethlehem Christian Church with Mark Luzadder officiating. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora will follow the memorial ceremony. A memorial visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the church on Monday.
