Bob Slagley, age 73, of Xenia, IL passed away at 6:47 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Flora Rehab & Healthcare Center in Flora.
Bob was born on May 23, 1939 in Songer Township, Clay County, IL to Pearl and Genelle (Smith) Slagley. He married Dixie Mason on January 25, 1960 in Shawneetown, IL and they shared 27 years of marriage.
Bob farmed and was a tool and die maker having worked at Sparton Manufacturing and AMF. Later in life he drove a truck and enjoyed traveling and seeing the country. Bob was a member of the Xenia United Methodist Church and was active in the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing Pinochle and attending Opry music shows in Xenia and Edgewood. He had also participated in Civil War reenactment events.
He is survived by his son: Doug (Angela) Slagley of Mt. Vernon; a grandson: Jonathan Douglas Slagley; a brother: George “Eldon” (Kathryn) Slagley of Greenville, AL; and 3 nephews: Dale Slagley of Edwardsville, Gale Slagley of Greenville, AL, and Alan Slagley of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Bill Slagley), and a great-niece (Sam Slagley).
The funeral service for Bob Slagley will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Pastor Bob McNeely officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Xenia, with Pastor Marvin Wilkinson officiating the committal. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 8, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Masonic Rites at 7:30 p.m. The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to Xenia United Methodist Church or to Fur A Good Paws.
