Ashelee Nycol Horsley, age 11, of Flora, Illinois, awoke to the embrace of angels and the sound of God’s calling voice at the edge of heaven on Thursday, April 30, 2020.
She was born April 3, 2009, in Marion, to Shane Horsley and Betty Valentine.
Ashelee, affectionately nicknamed “Itty Bitty” by her dad, shared a beautiful smile and shining heart with all of her family, friends, and teachers. She was in the 4th grade at Flora Elementary. She especially enjoyed being outdoors, driving her Nana’s golf cart, spending time at the camper, fishing, jumping on the trampoline, and playing with Noodles, the little rescued scrawny dog she had discovered and asked to bring back home with her. Ashelee loved music and would often sing and dance. She also played the violin and saxophone. Loving to see others be happy and laugh along with her meant that she was sometimes a clever prank-player, but would just as often give the sweetest of hugs and a kind touch.
She is survived by her father: Shane Horsley; mother: Betty Valentine; sister: Lakynn Walker; nephew: Weston Crowder; paternal grandparents: Bruce and Edie Horsley; maternal grandmother: Caroline Valentine; paternal great-grandmother: Elfreda L. Briscoe; aunt: Beth Ann Pate; cousins: Dalton (Promise) Pate and sons Aiden, Gabriel, and Jayce—Kali (Nick) McKinney and sons Zane and Bricen—and Dylan and Devin Butler; as well as several beloved great-aunts and uncles; and “Uncle” Kenny, a dear friend.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandparents: James Briscoe, and Earl and Lawana Horsley; maternal grandfather: Tommy Valentine; and a cousin: Trevor Howell.
A private graveside ceremony is planned with interment in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested for the benefit of the family and will be accepted through the funeral home.
