Lewis Allen “Bud” Britton, age 60, of Iola, Illinois, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 11, 2020, at home.
He was born September 14, 1959, in Effingham, the son of William “Bill” Dale Britton Sr. and Alice Jane (Reuter) Britton. He was united in marriage to Charlene “Willie” Byrley on September 26, 1992, behind the family’s pond in Iola, and together they have shared over 27 years of marriage. He never missed a day without giving a kiss to say “goodbye” or “goodnight” accompanied by, “I love you,” and swore that Willie was his “saving grace.”
If anyone could be matched to the definition of dedication, it would be Bud Britton. “A thorough job, never half-way done, and always done right,” is the way Bud did things, always taking pride in the responsibilities he had both on-the-job and at home. He was personally committed to his family, church, co-workers, and customers. Bud was part of South Central FS working in propane sales and delivery for almost 20 years. His grandkids were really life’s treasures that brought the biggest smile to his face and lifted his spirits whenever he would see them. And along with spending time with all of his family he enjoyed the chance to take vacations to places like Mexico, going out to the lake house, or when he could appreciate the company of friends while dove hunting. Bud’s Christian faith was confirmed in both the work of his daily life, and in the faithful and supportive membership he held in Red Brush Christian Church.
Bud is survived by his wife: Willie Britton of Iola; mother: Alice Britton of Iola; 3 children: Josh (Ashley) Britton of Metropolis, Ashley Britton of Xenia, and Dana (Gary) Adams of Iola; 6 grandchildren: Isabella, Marshall, Levi, Jayde, Reese, and Maya; a brother: William (Brenda) Dale Britton Jr. of Louisville; 2 sisters: Mona (Everett “Rick”) Barber of Flora and Kathy (Mike) Wildbur of Iola; 2 sisters-in-law: Nellie (Jerry) Leaf and Charlotte Williams; a brother-in-law: Larry (Rishawna) Shadowens; a number of nieces and nephews; and a close friend: Shane Carder.
He was preceded in death by his father: Bill Britton Sr.; mother-in-law: Ruth Shadowens; paternal grandparents: Guy and Wanda Britton; and maternal grandparents; Gus and Mildred Reuter.
